Smashword Publishing Tips

 If you want to publicise your book widely, you can do it using Smashwords. You can provide another edition with higher quality for Apple Books. You can still use MS Word with all features but you need to use extra programs and methods to convert it to compatible Smashword.   https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/52 You can use the Smashword Style Guide given above for a complete description but I shall concentrate on the simplest tips that I had just rediscovered. Tables are not allowed. You need to convert them into JPG picture files. The default PNG files does not work sometimes. Consecutive paragraphs are not allowed. Delete consecutive paragraph marks, which are entered by using the <return> key. It is too troublesome to not use MS Word autonumbering. If you use Mendeley to produce the citations and references, you can export it to another file without Mendeley fields. Ways of publishing your eBook

 The easiest to publish is by using Smashwords. https://www.smashwords.com/ Advantages: Smashwords give you free ISBN number. Smashwords publishes in all other eBook suppliers such as Apple Books, Amazon Kindle and others. Disadvantages:  No copy protection. People can just buy one book, and then they can distribute it to others for free. They do not need to go through Smashword. Low quality of publication because it only allows 15 Mbyte per book. Difficult to publish because it cannot use word processor directly. You need to remove all automatically numbered items in the document.  Apple Books Advantages: High quality of publication. Maximum size is 2 GB. Can import MS WORD directly. Allows copy protection.   Disadvantages:  Does not arrange ISBN number. We need to provide our own ISBN number. Must use Apple software to publish eBooks.
